No! Hydrocarbons are compounds containing hydrogen and carbon only. They include gases (eg methane, propane), liquids (eg hexane, benzene) and solids (eg paraffin wax). Carbohydrates are compounds containing carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, with hydrogen and oxygen present in the same ration as in water ie H2O. They include sugars (eg glucose, fructose, sucrose) and starches (eg amylose, amylopectin). See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrocarbon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbohydrate

hydrocarbons

How are substituted hydrocarbons and hydrocarbons different?

Hydrocarbons contain only hydrogen and carbon, whereas carbohydrates contain carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Carbohydrates, because they also contain oxygen, typically have more bonding variety.

Are hyrdrocarbons same as carbohydrates?

hydrocarbons are compounds composed to carbon and hydrogen only. They are used to feul, they are not for eating! carbohydrates contain elements other elements such as water and manifest in sugars eg. glucose, galactose saccharides. They're the stuff that make up your bread, aka. carbs. This is the stuff you eat!
