Opinions vary. Every new technology creates both new opportunities and new dangers. The consequences of genetic engineering are still unfolding, and the science of genetic engineering is quite young. Ask me again in another 50 years.

Some people think that genetic engineering is unethical because they feel that people are 'playing God' by altering a person's genes, instead of letting the person develop so that they are unique.

Answerpeople throw words around when they get scared. people get mad when what they believe is challenged so they attack. people are afraid to face the truth and admit that humans are great and tthat we can do things that people's god should only be able to do. It shouldn't matter whether I or anyone else find it ethical or not, it depends how YOU feel about it. You must know the facts before deciding such though. Be careful, people who fear advocate their feelings more because they need a mass to back them up, thus their are more hate-site than reliable ones. Think about it, if you do not fear something, you do'NT pay any attention really, but if you do fear, you will go out to try to change that which makes you fear. (like killing a spider if you hate them)

So far we do not know of any human deaths that can be attributed to genetic engineering. But we could not rule out the possibility that genetic engineering may, at some time in the future, be used for the purpose of killing people. The greatest risk would be the engineering of new diseases, for the purpose of biological warfare or terrorism.

well, basically it is kind of harmful because the process of genetic engineering may produce new microorganisms that cause disease that are uncontrollable.
