Aviation refers to all man created objects that leave the ground and go through the air. General aviation (Part 91 of the FAA regs) is sub-category of aviation just like the airlines (pt 121) are a sub-category. General aviation does include most small Cessna Operations like was answered previously, but G.A. may also include some fly for hire operations as well such as fractional ownership which has increased in popularity.
