There are about 200 types of cancer, and these diseases are very complex. However, while viruses can make one more susceptible to cancer, current medical science does not recognize viruses as a cause of cancer.

Cancer is not a viral disease.

Another answer.
While the answer above is correct for the most part and covers most cancers, there are two cancers associated with viruses. One is a leukemia. The other is a sexually transmitted disease which is preventable by a vaccination.

HPV is widely accepted as a cause of certain types of cancers, including cervical and some throat cancers.

HPV is a sexually transmitted virus. Not all HPV types are thought to be "high risk" types. A "high risk" HPV is more likely to lead to cancer if left untreated.

Currently most pap tests also include an HPV test. It is important to know that HPV is very common, but Cervical cancer rates remain relatively low in the United States. With proper follow up and treatment from a medical professional, the chances of getting cervical cancer are low, even if HPV positive.

Cancer can be caused by a virus, however it isn't always.

Excerpt from cancer.org:

"Viruses are very small organisms -- most cannot even be seen with an ordinary microscope. They are made up of a small group of genes (in the form of DNA or RNA) surrounded by a protein coating. Viruses cannot reproduce on their own. They need to enter a living cell and "hijack" the cell's machinery to make more viruses. Some viruses do this by inserting their own DNA (or RNA) into that of the host cell. When this insertion affects the host cell's genes, it may push the cell toward becoming cancerous.

Several viruses are now known or suspected of being linked with cancer in humans."

I'm not sure .But I will not try!

It is believed that Cancer actually presents itself when there is the presence of some virus in the immune system. Epstein Barr Virus( mononucleosis virus) is linked to Leukemia. Normally after a person has Mono, the body rids itself of the Epstein Barr virus after a few years. In Leukemia patients, in many cases, the virus is still present in the immune system or "lymphatic" system. There is a direct correlation to viruses and Cancer. Many therapies today for Cancer use what are called...Immunotherapy. Helping the immune system fight the cancer with a little help. I had B Cell Lymphoma and was treated with Immunotherapy drugs for 2 years. It is gone. Not all cancers can be treated this way.
