well There is not much study on whether amblyopia cause disabilty.people with amblyopia can expect to do as well as their peers with normal vision in both eyes in terms of educational attainment, employment, and occupational and socioeconomic achievement. They do not seem to be disadvantaged in relation to social activities, nor are they at increased risk of behavioral difficulties or social maladjustment as children. They are no more likely to report overall worse general health or mental health, to be involved in serious unintended injuries generally, or to be at overall increased risk of death.

Early the amblyopia is detected more good is the prognosis bcz after 8 years its difficult to treat.

As a person with amblyopia and has very limited vision in the right eye (o.d) with the exception of looking peripherally off to the right with effort. I find the answer Ignorant to say the least which is not an insult to the O.D who has answered nor meant to be one HOWEVER unless you suffer from the above that I have described I do not believe you are qualified to know fully what one's limitations are and how they are effected in all the aspects of employment (having the loss of depth perception, effecting hand eye coordiation making any manufacturing jobs difficult which also effected me mentally having my father yell at me because i could not hammer a nail into the wall damaging the sheetrock or taking to long to complete a task which involved assembly affecting production resulting in being layed off. Educational last time i checked reading (which is left to right) takes me longer to do and many times i need to re-read the material. question in the form of an analogy , Would you take a person with a prothstetic leg who has "adapted" to it vs a person without put them in a race and call it fair? Would you actually put money down on that race ? Didn't think so .. Far as children do you know how many times I was made fun of because I was required to wear a patch in school? Try to tell me that did not affect me socially or mentally (self esteem) in any way. Lastly far as risk of serious injury I had a deer hit my car it caused an accidient that could have killed me , guess what side it came on.. ding ding you got it the right side do you think my reaction time was effected maybe ? I normally would not answer with such conviction but for a human being who personally SUFFERS from amblyopia and has personally experienced all the above. Yes I have adapted to an extent with just the one eye in binocular vision but for organizations like vesid to take a amblyopics rx monovision (one eye at a time ) and not binocular i find ridiculous as well as one finale question /statement.. where in the world would you go around covering one eye at a time to be able to use both eyes??... exactly makes as much sense as the answer to the question above by the O.D. non at all. as well as his last statement if there is no such disadvantages of being amblyopic as apposed to being non amblyopic why would you bother to correct it at all?

At least you CAN drive. I can't even get a drivers' license in my state because I can't pass the vision exam. (I'm not correctable to 20/30 in my "good" eye.) I have little vision in my right eye as well and have the same problem of not seeing things to the right. That's why my 2nd driving instructor(and my opthamologist) told me its better that I don't drive because I wouldn't see a child (or pet or anyone for that matter) darting into the street from the right side. That said, however, since the government treats driving as a privelege and not a necessity, the inability to do so does not create an impairment according to them. Not having a license is increasingly reducing my employment opportunities. Many jobs require a clean driving record for employment because it shows responsibility. They also want to make sure you can get to and from work reliably and are available to send to another location or run errands. You can't take the days' deposit on the bus to the bank. It is not easy finding affordable public transportation. Most jobs available for me are low wage retail positions with wildly fluctuating hours. It is possible to have this type of job and rely on bus transportation, but you will likely not move far up the ladder. Try enjoying life on just above minimum wage. Try even surviving. I was left with a house and kids to try and support. We don't qualify for very much assistance of any kind. I have a degree and I could easily complete more if I had the money and transportation (since there are now legitimate online schools, mainly it's the money). None of it matters if I can't get myself to work each day and be available in a useful way. Nearly all the better paying jobs require an ability to drive. People that are too depressed to hold down a job are "disabled", yet I am not because my problem is that I can't see well enough to drive to work? It is unfair, but that's the way it is. If not for all the drugs they push on you, I would just go seek mental help for the depression caused by my inability to drive which prevents me from seeking a fulfilling, good paying career. Then the government would consider me "disabled"!
