Nothing, the are the same thing. Jet is just the shorter way of saying it. However, there is a difference between a turbofan and turbojet.

A turbofan has a large fan at the front of the engine where as a turbojet doesn't have this fan. Turbofans are mainly used in modern commercial airliners where as turbojets were used in older commercial airliners and are now used on fighter jets.

What is a 8 letter word for a jet engine?

Perhaps "turbojet".

What is a turbojet?

A turbojet is one of the very first types of jet engine. Turbojets are different than turbofans- jet engines that most modern aircraft use.

Are turbo-shaft engines louder than turbojet?

No, a jet engine is louder.

Is there a fighter jet that uses turbojet engine?

Most if not all fighter jets use turbojet engines as they are the most efficient. The either use just the turbojet engine or it is modified to have a afterburner which causes the flame that you sometimes see at the back of jet fighters. One famous example is the F-14A Tomcat which was used in the film Topgun.

What was the date when the jet engine was made?

Dr. Hans von Ohain and Sir Frank Whittle are both recognized as being the co-inventors of the jet engine. Each worked separately and knew nothing of the other's work. Hans von Ohain is considered the designer of the first operational turbojet engine. Frank Whittle was the first to register a patent for the turbojet engine in 1930. Hans von Ohain was granted a patent for his turbojet engine in 1936. However, Hans von Ohain's jet was the first to fly in 1939. Frank Whittle's jet first flew in in 1941.

In France, Maxime Guillaume was issued a patent for the use of an axial-flow turbojet engine to power an aircraft in 1921, but it is not clear that a working design for such an engine is part of the claims of the patent. Hungarian mechanical engineer Albert Fonó filed a patent in Germany in 1928 for several jet engine designs, including a turbojet. The American Rocket Society reviewed Fonó's patents in 1960 and acknowledged him as the inventor of the jet engine.

What kind of motor does a helicopter have?

Modern choppers use a turbojet engine that is basically a jet engine, but instead of providing forward thrust, it spins the propeller.

What engines did frank whittle make?

Frank Whittle designed the turbojet engine that is the foundation of all modern jet aircraft today.

How does a turbojet engine work?

Axial Turbojet; Air enters the engine and goes through a compressor, increasing the air's pressure and temperature. The air then enters the combustor where it is mixed with fuel and ignited. Next, the hot gas expands and spins the turbine which powers the compressor. Finally, the exhaust passes through a convergent nozzle into the atmosphere, creating a high velocity jet which pushes the aircraft. Centrifugal Turbojet; Nearly the same as an axial-flow turbojet, the centrifugal-flow turbojet compresses the air by diverting it from the axis of flow. While this type of jet is simpler, lighter and cheaper than axial-flow, it is less efficient and can not handle as high a volume of air. Often a combination of axial and centrifugal compressors are used in modern jets.
