A geek can be cool; a nerd can't. It may seem like an oxymoron, but I'm considered a preppy geek. I love comics, sci-fi, the net, and other geek stuff, but I also have plenty of friends and I love shopping, style, etc. This is often called geek chic.
A nerd is not usually well-adjusted to society; a nerd's friends are almost exclusively other nerds. Nerds are often smarter than geeks.
A geek doesn't have to be smart. He can just like wierd things. Most often nerds are the smart ones. So a smart geek would really just be a nerd but and a stupid nerd is probably not a nerd but just a geek.
also a geek waits outside a movie theater for 4 hours waiting for the Harry Potter premiere, a nerd on the otherhand goes to the premiere dressed as Harry Potter.

Whereas a "nerd" is applied to those who are more socially withdrawn within such activities. Why are nerds called nerds?
Because we are smarter and hated Because nerds are smarter in some cases. however in others you're pretending to be a nerd by saying you are. Being called a nerd may be a compliment; however, some people may get offended by it. I've been called a nerd before:P
Where were Nerds invented?
Nerds were originally highly respected intellects. Trust me, I'm a nerd. they are fond of stuff that would be considered boring by others (Math, science, poetry, chess, reading, history, art, etc.) and are always kind and helpful. Geeks are the losers who spend all day with video games and have no life. Geeks were angry that they were hated and made fun of and called dorks. They started their revenge by making fun of the weakest.. the nerds (Yes, I admit we nerds are either underweight like me or overweight, we hate sports). They somehow spread rumors that nerds and geeks meant the same thing, soon came the confusion. Next time you see a real geek, make sure to punch him/her real hard and say, "This one's for the nerds!". We nerds are usually pacifists and very serious and stern.
