Most typically lawn mower batteries are 12 volt but there are the occasional 6v versions out there. you can

  • Look at the battery - somewhere on it, it should reference the voltage
  • Refer to your manual to identify the type of battery if you don't have the battery in your possession
  • Use a look up such as this - www.batterystuff.com to find the correct battery for your mower.

You can usually find a suitable replacement at your local Home Depot or Lowes hardware store.

Can you charge a 6 volt battery with a 12 volt battery charger on slow 2amp charge?

No.

What 12 volt battery is best to replace 6 volt battery bank and retain ample reserve capacity?

If your load runs on 6 volts, you cannot replace it with a 12 volt battery. You will be exceeding the voltage rating of your load and will start a fire.If you want more amps (capacity) then you can wire more 6 volt batteries in parallel with the first.

Can you use a 12 volt battery on a 6 volt system?

Sure you can. But consider what could happen if you did. If precision of time or speed was built into this 6-volt system, a 12-volt battery will make it work faster until something shorts or burns out. If you need more lasting power for the 6 volt system, you should consider putting two 6-volt batteries in parallel to power your 6-volt system.

Can you use a 3.5 amp charger to charge a 12 volt battery?

You can charge a 12 volt battery with a 6 AMP charger. The amount of amps put out by the charger is actually the rate which the power flows out from the charger, not the amount of volts it will charge. Volts and Amps are two different things. You can't charge up a 12 volt battery all the way, using a 6 volt charger. You can charge a 12 volt battery with a 12 volt charger rated at '6 amps'. It will charge the battery faster than a 2 amp charger will, but it will take longer than using a 12 amp charger. You probably don't want to use anything higher than a 12-16 amp charger for charging a 12 volt battery. Some chargers are equipped with a 60amp boost charge that is used for starting the vehicle, without having much of a charge in the battery. You DO NOT want to attempt charging a battery with it set to a 60amp boost charge. That is for starting vehicles only and could damage your battery. Keep in mind that the lower the amps are, that you use to charge the battery (1-2amps), will result in the charge lasting longer without recharging it, than if it was charged up at a higher setting (12-16amps).

Can you use two 6 amp chargers on one battery at the same time?

No, you would be applying 24 volts to the 12 volt battery.
