A built-in dishwasher is tangible, but you have to be careful with this one. It is not personal property as it is a part of the house, and therefore considered real estate.
Tangible property in law is property that can be touched. A house would be tangible real property.
Tangible property refers to anything which can be touched.
The sale of a dishwasher is taxable. The install labor charged when purchasing a dishwasher would also be subject to sales tax. If you purchased install services from a third party that provided no tangible personal property during the installation, then there would be no sales tax on those services. One practical exception - When you purchase a new home and it includes a dishwasher, then this generally is ignored by the taxing authority (the FL DOR expects the general contractor to pay the tax). The reason for the tax is that the dishwasher is very easily removed with no damage to the house. So it is still considered tangible personal property after it is installed. If we were talking about a home appliance that was more permanently attached to the home, then the appliance and install services would not be subject to sales tax. In other words, real property improvements are not subject to sales tax but tangible personal property sales (and install labor sold with the property) is subject to tax.
