I don't think there is an actual Siam Bend in Wyoming. The characters in the movie "Broken Trail" are not real. The story was based on events that could have happened. The story loosely follows historical events. The story is not based on actual events.
Siam Bend is a fictional spot that comes from the film Broken Trail ...
There are several gorgeous scenes by the Snake River in Wyoming. In one instance, Prentice (Robert Duvall) and Nola Johns (Gretta Scacchi) are sitting by the flowing waters on a serene starlit night. Nola asks about the women in "Mr Ritter's" life and Prent reveals that "Ah, well, there've been a few" but true 'abiding love' seems to be reserved only for a "lucky special few"... and he does not count himself as one of the fortunates. Nola challenges that assertion, and Prent laughs; "I have about as much chance of finding 'true love' as I do becoming the King of Siam." Later in the film Prent is faced with the choice of taking Nola as his life partner or sending her off with the young Celestials (Chinese girls) whom he now cares for as his surrogate children. Prent opts to send Nola on to San Francisco. Ritter later buys some ranch land at the very spot on the Snake River where he and Nola dipped their toes in the water. A special place he named Siam Bend. The King of Siam indeed!
