The Apostle Paul promised the Thessalonians (1 Thessalonians ) that Jesus would return within the within his own lifetime. Paul said that the Thessalonians could be ready for the return of Jesus by being vigilant (1 Thess 5:6): "Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober."

We switch to Mark, the first of the New Testament gospels to be written, around 70 CE and so still within the lifetimes of many alive when Paul wrote his epistles. The author of Markheld the same belief as Paul had, believing there would be signs - earthquakes, civil war, destruction and many calamities, after which the stars would fall from heaven and they would see the Son of man descend on clouds of glory. He warned them to flee into the hills, not stopping to collect anything.

Mark's expectation of the imminent return of Jesus, within the lifetime of his generation, did not come about and so the authors of Matthew and Luke began to realise that the return of Jesus Christ was not imminent after all, and so began to tone down the prophecies, placing it in the indefinite future. Their readers did not really need to be ready for Jesus' return.

Since the apostolic times, there have been hundreds of documented prophecies of Jesus' imminent return, and with each one there is less and less chance that the next prophecy will be any more true than the one before. There is no reason to believe that Jesus is ever coming back.

Matthew 24:42 " Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come"

Matthew 24:44 " Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh "

Matthew 25:13 " Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh "

Mark 13:33 " But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the father "

Mark 13:33 " Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is "

Mark 13;35 " Watch ye therefore; For ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnite, or at the cock crowing, or in the morning "

Luke 12:40 " Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not "

2 Peter 3:10 " But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night "

1 Thessalonians 5:2 " For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night "

If you mean "when is the Rapture going to happen", The Bible says it could be any time. Day. Night. 100 years from now. Tomorrow. The Bible say the angels or even Jesus himself doesn't even know when, only God the Father.

Excellent answer above.

In addition - If you are asking about some final salvation that includes all of mankind from the beginning to now - this will not happen. God never promised to save everyone. God has never promised to save anyone apart from faith in Christ.

Everything needed for our salvation happened with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus achieved eternal salvation through His death and His shed blood. When you or I place our faith in His blood for our sins we are saved. Without this faith, or without faith in Christ's blood, there is no salvation, not now and not ever.

In His first coming Jesus came to save the world - because of God's love. When He comes again it will be for judgment, not salvation. When Jesus returns to earth only those who have put their faith in Him will continue on earth as described in the book of Revelation. The remainder will be put in Hell awaiting a final judgment before God ushers in the eternal realm for all those who are saved.

Actually, 1 Timothy 2:4 clearly says that God will have all men to be saved and know the truth. Jesus told us to pray, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." Jesus also said that He came to do the will of the Father. It is not, therefore, up to our desire or works, but up to God who shows mercy. These are all straight out of the bible. God works ALL in accord with His will. So yes, we will all be saved by Christ, because it is God's will and Christ will accomplish His Father's will. It is God's choice who is to be saved, and He made that choice already.

Another answer from our community:

Yes, Jesus will return to earth, it is called the second coming of Jesus Christ, at the end of this age. Some believe we are now living in the last days and this church age is about to end. The world will not end, but things as we know them will be changed and we will enter into a new age, called the millennium a thousand year period of peace.

Yes, Jesus will return to the earth. Jesus said that he will return but no one knows when he will return. When Jesus returns, all the dead ones will rise first with him and then the living will rise after with Jesus. Those who does not believe in Jesus will not rise with him but stay at earth and then the nine plagues will come. When you go to heaven, it is like a city. Made out of crystals. There will be no tears or pain or sadness, nor mourning over a dead one. For everything will be perfect. We would be in a new world. Called the new Jeruselum. I learned all this from my Sunday School Teacher and from the bible.

Many Christians and Muslims believe Jesus will return to earth. Others say he is dead and will never return. Remember that numerous prophecies of Jesus' imminent return have all gone unfulfilled and these prophecies have had to be reinterpreted, but there are those who wait.

Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. It all depends on what you believe. Perhaps he will come back after you are gone, perhaps he will never come back, perhaps he is back already.

Why does God not come to earth?

Jesus Christ who is the eternal God, did indeed come to earth for a time and He will return again in the future. He will come at the right time and many see the signs that it may not be too far away. One thing is certain -it will never be on a day when any man predicts it to be, since Jesus plainly stated that no man can know the day or the hour..

Why does Jesus wait to come back?

Because it is not yet time for His Second Coming. The final prophecies must happen first, and then His Second Coming will happen in the clouds. Jesus will not come back to earth as He did the first time. Everyone on earth will witness His Second Coming in the clouds with great power and glory. (Mark 13:26). First there has to be a great war, then the Antichrist has to come to make a false peace. Then the Antichrist will rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem and procliam himself as the Christ, for the first three-and-a-half years of his reign. Then for the next three-and-a-half years, he will reveal his true self and wage war against all those who did not accept his mark. Then the Second Coming of Christ will happen in the clouds and Christ will destroy the beast and all those who received his mark on their right hand or forehead. Jesus' Second Coming will not happen until these final biblical prophecies have been fulfilled.

Why was Jesus referred to as That?

Jesus was reffered to as that because, dating back in ancient time, the followers on the horrizon sent peace towards the tarnished land to what we now call earth. Jesus came from the creation of god, he was gods only son , therefore the name jesus was given to him meaning the first life, my only son , the creation..
