No, not the same as paracetamol but can provide similar relief (e.g. for some pain or headache) by different means. My understanding is that it reduces inflammation locally and that's how the relief comes.

There is an over-the-counter, supermarket-supplied or pharmacy-supplied pill (different popular name) which is the same as ibuprofen. If you went to a pharmacy and asked for the pill that is the same as ibuprofen you would get it.

This answer is based on publicity when the pill that was the popular equivalent of ibuprofen came out. It was said to be exactly the same as ibuprofen but a different name.

Trade names for the popular easily-bought pill might differ in different locations.

No - ibuprofen doesnt contain paracetamol so this is why you can take them together, because you wont be over-dosing on paracetamol.
