Answer:

"Allah" is the name, in the Arabic language, for the One and Only God. It is the very same God of The Bible.

Here is proof:

In Hebrew, they call God "Elohim". The letters i and m at the end of the word are a suffix, added to imply respect. That suffix can be found at the end of many words, in Hebrew. So, without the suffix, the primary, root word for God in the Hebrew language is "Eloha".

In Aramaic (the language that Jesus spoke) the name for God is "Alaha".

Arabic speaking Christians also call God "Allah". It's not just a Muslim thing.

The name Allah is most likely from the combination of two words: "Al", which means "The", and "Ilah", which means "god". So, in other words, "Allah" simply means "The God".

There are 3 main points or points of arguments to consider before we can reach a conclusion on the use of the word - 'allah' to refer to god.

Firstly, we note that the word - 'allah' which originates from the religion of Islam classifies it as a unique Name (note: not a noun) within the core text of the religion, The Quran. Secondly, some arabic speakers believe that the word 'allah' is an abridged form of 2 separate words 'al' (the) and 'ilah' (god) which produces the word al-ilah which is then further shortened to produce instead a noun (allah). Thirdly, according to secular historians the name 'allah' was used by ancient Babylonians to refer to a moon-stone idol which was worshipped for many centuries down to the time of Muhammad.

These 3 points or arguments seek either to accept or reject the stand that allah = god. Yet in all 3 instances above, there are qualifications to be made before one can conclusively determine the word to refer to the noun - god or even that the name refers to god.

To begin, according to muslim scholars the arabic word 'allah' cannot be translated to mean 'god' when used within the context of a non-muslim deity. A different arabic noun - 'ilah' must be used. That implies that the word 'allah' is unique, which will concur with the 1st point above that the word is a Name as admitted in the Quran and not a noun since all nouns can be translated. The second argument of the word being an abridged form of 2 words is quashed by the arabic calligraphic writings of 'allah' which does not seem to bring up its links to the 2 nouns of 'the' and 'god'. Since the written form (arabic calligraphy) does not show the composition of the 2 nouns, it is logical to deduce that the 'abridgement' argument also fails. The final argument which labels the word 'allah' to refer to a stone - idol is staunchly rejected by muslims. Unfortunately, archaelogical evidences sometimes paint a picture that rejects our preferred beliefs but that is no reason for our rejection of the evidences by secular historians and archaelogists.

Muslims claim they worship the same God as the Jews and Christians who know of their God only by the proper name of YHWH / Jehovah. That name however is not accepted by the muslims in their worship. Which subjects that claim to doubt since an entity with a given name must be referred to by that same name.

That said, many Christians living in the Middle East who speak arabic have over the years of arab assimilation come to accomodate the word 'allah' to refer to god without question to the origin of the word. Still, whether 'allah' is god is not confirmed by mere arguments but by the virtues, attributes and powers that go with being a God. Without which, any claim of god-hood is vain.

Allah is the word Muslims use for God, but Muslims believe that He is the same God that the Jews and Christians revere and is not a God who is specifically defensive of Muslims or Islam, but rather of all humanity.
