I would say that even though Mrs Bennet can appear abit foolish sometimes, she truly cares alot about her daughters. This could be seen by how much she tried to get her daughters married. I would say that Mrs Bennet is a much better mother as compared to Mr Bennet being a father.

I think most of the time, only Jane and Elizabeth is able to see the foolishness in Mrs Bennet's bahaviour, despite this, their relationship is still good.

Mr. Bennet's estate is entailed to a male heir. This means that the girls will not inherit anything from it, unless he has set it aside from his income. He has not done this, which is part of the reason he confesses to having neglected his daughters at one point. Mr. Collins is the male heir who will get the estate.

The Bennet girls have been raised in a household with an income of 2000 pounds per year. By way of comparison, an agricultural worker of the time earned about 50 pounds, and an attorney typically earned about 650. They are used to a modest wealthiness. But their inheritance will be 5000 from their mother, and this will be divided among them. They are not prepared for any sort of employment, and even if they were, the best they could hope for would be to become governesses, implying servitude with a level of respect.

Until they are married, they will be dependent on one of their parents. If their father dies first, they will have to live with their mother. 5000 pounds will only provide an income of about 200 pounds per year, which is not enough to live on unless they work at something they are not prepared for. The only alternative is to become dependent on someone else in the family, such as Mr. Gardner. Clearly, one of them must marry very well, and before their father dies.

Compounding their problem is another which forms a background in the novel Jane Austen never alludes to directly. The UK is in the middle of the Napoleonic War. Something like 40% of the young men are involved, and most of these go overseas. This is why the militia are so important - the officers might become suitable husbands. But it also tells a terrible story everybody knew at the time, but few people understand today. Middle and upper class women had to marry - there really were no other options; but there were only enough men for about three quarters of the women. So the men could be picky and demand dowries, which the Bennet girls did not have. The Bennet girls were in trouble unless they could find good husbands, and this would not be easy.

As an aside, it took me quite a while to understand why Wickham would have been a fool to take Julia with less than ten thousand pounds. He as already almost got Georgiana Darcy with 30,000. He narrowly missed getting Mary King with 10,000. He is handsome, and women need husbands. He would probably eventually find someone with 10,000 or more. If he could not get this much from Julia's family or friends, he could give her to someone else (who would regard her as damaged goods, and only keep her as long as was convenient) or just dump her and walk away.

All of this explains one very sad fact. There were neverenough men at the ball.

Mr. Bennet believes that his daughters are all rather silly, though Lizzy is a bit less silly than the rest. He thinks that Lizzy and Jane are the only ones capable of saying anything rational. He also says that two or three of his daughters (Lydia and Kitty, but possibly Mary also) are among the silliest young women in Britain. He believes that many young men prefer silly women, and possibly neglects their education as a result of that thought. He has the hots for them (rape).
