In 1840, the president and prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" Church) was lead by Joseph Smith, Jr. He organized the Church in 1830 and was murdered in the summer of 1844.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) was officially founded on April 6, 1830. Many would consider the period between 1820 and 1840 to be the founding years of the church.

Church of the Latter Day Saints (ie., Mormon)
Brigham Young led the first group of Mormon pioneers to Utah, and over the next 30 years was the leader of the church while hundreds more pioneers travelled to Utah. Since Brigham Young died in 1877, there have been many leaders of the Mormon church. While each of these leaders have lived in Utah, they lead the entire worldwide church, not just members in Utah.
There were thousands of Mormon Elders in the 1840's, and since the name Andersen is very common, it is quite probable. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) has always accepted people of color into it's membership. I cannot speak for the Presbyterian church.
Nowhere. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) has outlawed the practice of polygamy amongst it's members since 1890 - even in nations where polygamy is legal. Any Mormon man found to have two wives (no matter where he lives) is excommunicated from the church.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) purchases the land that it uses to build churches, temples, and other buildings or uses as welfare farms, etc from the landowner. Some of the land owned by the Church in Utah is theirs simply because they were the first people to settle and develop it in the 1840's and 1850's - there was nobody to buy it from at that time.
