If your friend just got arrested and had an arrest warrant for a misdemeanor in this case he has a class a assault charge and he failed to show up to a Texas Court how long could he be in jail?

He could be in jail until he finishes his sentence for the assault.
The fact that he missed/skipped tells the judge that he cannot be trusted to return for court. Many judges will refuse to release a prisoner who has had to be arrested on a warrant because it's likely that he will fail to appear again.
Failing to appear is not smart. Judges get mad too.

So-called 'Simple Assault' in most(all?) jurisdictions is a "probable cause misdemeanor" and, unlike the vast majority of other misdemeanor offenses (which must be committed in the officers presence for an arrest to be made), you can be arrested for it based on probable cause alone.
