If you have no proof of current insurance, yes you have to come to court and show proof. Usually the fine is waved and you pay court cost. Sometimes, something can be worked out so you can show your proof to the magistrate without having to appear but yoy still have to pay trhe court cost.

What happens if you get pulled over with expired registration in Georgia?

First, the car will likely get impounded because the tags are expired and the owner is not with the car. You can get a ticket as the driver. Drivers are responsible for not only how they drive but knowing what they drive can be legally on the road. An unregistered car shouldn't be on the road.

What happens in Ohio if you don't go to court for an expired license plate but pay the ticket after the court date?

Some states require a person to come to court for an expired license plate even if they pay the ticket in advance. If a person can not pay the ticket until after the court date, it is best to go to court to speak to a judge about the situation. If a person does not go to court, a judge can issue a bench warrant for their arrest. In the state if Ohio, contact the court to ask direct questions so that accurate information is relayed.

What is the fine for driving an unregistered vehicle in Missouri?

You can get your car impounded. Have to pay impound fees, plus hefty fines including court fees, depending on how far out your tags are. You could also be cited in some states for driving without insurance on top of all that. In Virginia, you get fine but car do not impounded if tag expired within 3 month. Get renew on tag before going to court (time limit must be within 3 month of tags expired). If you don't renew tag, the car can be impounded from court order. Any tag expire over 3 months will be impounded.

This will certainly vary by state, but a typical citation for not being able to show proof of insurance will be a "correctable violation", meaning, for a small administrative fee ($10-$20), the court will dismiss the charge if you can demonstrate you had proper insurance at the time of the citation.

Your uncle was driving a vehicle that is in your name and was in an accident The other driver hit him He has no insurance on the vehicle although he bought it from me. My policy is expired?

The driver who caused the accident is at fault. However, since that person has no insurance, you would have to sue them in court for damages. Chances are if they have no money for insurance they also will not have any money to pay a court fine or court ordered award to you. Since your policy expired, the total accident then becomes No Fault/No Fault for both parties and everyone walks away sustaining their own damages and the methods for financing their own repairs.

How can you find out if someone has current automobile insurance?

You can't. That is private information between insurance companies and their clients. If someone has caused damage to your car you may have to get a lawyer and take them to court. If that person has insurance then their insurance company will defend their client and pay on their behalf if the court decides that they are liable for your damage.

Do you need to keep copies of business insurance policies that have expired?

Any document that could be admitted as "evidence" in a court of law should be kept for at least seven (7) years. Keeping those policies, even though the date of coverage has expired, is you proof positive that you indeed had proper insurance coverage during the aforementioned time period.

What is the penalty for an expired registration and an expired insurance card in New Jersey. Both were expired for a mere four days?

In New Jersey the fine for having an expired registration is $54.00 Expired insurance is a much bigger problem. Get A Lawyer. The mandatory penalties imposed for driving without insurance is greater than the first offender penalties for drunk driving or possession of marijuana. Mandatory penalties include automatic loss of license for one year, $300.00 fine and a period of community service to be determined by the Municipal Court. N.J.S.A. 39:6B-2 The no car insurance statute is one of the few strict liability statutes. "Every owner or registered owner of a motor vehicle registered or principally garaged in this state shall maintain motor vehicle coverage, under provisions approved by the Commissioner of Insurance." N.J.S.A. 39:6B-1 There are also court costs and insurance surcharges of $250.00 per year for three years. Failure to produce at the time of trial an insurance card or insurance policy covering the date of the offense creates a rebuttable presumption that the person was uninsured when charged with the offense.
