The "dip stick" usually dips directly into the oil pan, so if it fell "in", it would still be in the oil pan. Now on the other hand if it fell "out" then you would know better where it went;-0 If the top broke off and it fell down the tube it cannot go all the way into the oil pan you can take a small magnet and fish it out. if you don't have a small magnet try holding a biger magnet to a piece of metal such as a long , small screwdriver or another dip stick it will magnatize it and make it stick to the one in the hole. you may also try one of those screw retrivers with the retractable fingers in the end you may be able to get it with that it shouldn't be more than 5 inches down in the tube
An oil dipstick may not go completely into its sleeve if it is bent or damaged. It may be designed to only go in one way try turning it 180 degrees and putting it in. Also, if it is not the original dipstick it may be the incorrect size or too long. Other possibilities that come to mind include: a damaged sleeve, foreign material in the sleeve, or part of the oil dipstick has broken off in the sleeve.
Sounds like you need to add some oil. The oil won't show up on the dipstick when it's not running if it's extremely low. Once you start it, it circulates and gets the dipsick wet. This is detailed and illustrated in the Owners Manual - See "Related Questions" below for more
You go find one and put it in.
The dipstick tube must be damaged/bent at the base.
Transmission fluid goes down the dipstick tube. The transmission dipstick not the oil dipstick. use a skinny funnel. do not over fill.
Physically check the engine oil level with the dipstick to confirm the engine is full of oil. If the engine is full, the oil level sensor or wiring to it may be at fault. If the level is low, go back to where the oil was changed and complain.
On average, probably less than half way.
Correct, there is no one dipstick that will fit all vehicles. What you need is a dipstick that is the correct length. If you have lost yours, then go to your local salvage yard and find a car with the same engine. Ford Contour, Mercury Mystique, Ford Mondero, are all the same. Look for one with the same engine, either the 2.0 or 2.5. The dipstick from any of these will fit. Another alternative is to get any dipstick that will actually fit and be long enough. Drain your oil and change the filter. Add the correct amount of oil that is required for an oil & filter change. Start the engine and run for 1 minute. Shut the engine off, Wait one hour and check the level on the dip stick you are using. Mark the level of the oil on that stick, and use that as the full mark. This way you can make your own dipstick.
ALWAYS check your oil first thing in the morning. That way the oil has sat all night and dripped down into the oil pan. That will give you a true reading. Add oil if your dipstick says that you are low. But don't over fill it or you will blow out some seals in your engine. When you check your oil with a warm engine, Remember that it will always read lower than what it actually is. That's because it is being pumped through your engine. it will usually read between half a quart, and 1 quart low. Depending on your engine size.
no go to store and get the wright one for your motor
it should go in threw the head on the driver side but some go in threw the block on the passenger side
The dip stick is on the back right corner of the engine
