According to The Bible, marriage is a divine arrangement by God, first established in Eden(Genesis 2:22-24) for procreation (Genesis 1:27, 28) and joy (Proverbs 5:18).

Genesis 2:24 says: "That is why a man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh. "(Matthew 19:5)

Marriage was created by God as a covenant between two people, a PROMISE of faithfulness, that would last forever. It should not be 'put apart' (Matthew 19:6), as God hates a divorcing (Malachi 2:16)

However, because of human imperfection, God is merciful "remembering that we are dust"(Psalms 103:14)...and has added one allowance, mentioned by Jesus at:

Matthew 19:8-9 "Moses, out of regard for YOUR hardheartedness, made the concession to YOU of divorcing YOUR wives, but such has not been the case from [the] beginning. I say to YOU that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, and marries another commits adultery." (Matthew 5:32)(Matthew 19:9)

Anything beyond this is brought out in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 NASB): "...But to the married I give instructions, not I, but the Lord, that the wife should not leave her husband(but if she does leave, she must remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband should not divorce his wife."

And the only other thing that ends a marriage in God's eyes is brought out at:

1 Corinthians 7:39 (Romans 7:2)

What does you shall not commit adultery mean?

Having sex outside of marriage, either yours, or your partner's or that of you both. Felt I needed to correct this answer because it's not at all true how God sees adultery. The bible tells us that in God's eyes it is even wrong to lust within our hearts. You can commit adultery even if you don't commit a sexual act. It's sharing a sexual or intimate bond (something you wouldn't do with that person if your spouse was around) with someone other than your spouse. If you are taking away your gift of intimacy a married couple is supposed to have, whether it is sexual, physical, mental, or emotional, if you are taking that from your marriage and giving it to someone other than your spouse, you have committed adultery. Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery. - Hebrews 13:4
