1) not able to adjust the heater temperatures
2) sounds coming from behind the radio area of the dash when trying to change temps - from a clicking to a thumping like an angry rabbit

rear blend door motor is bad rear blend door actuator motor is bad
The blend door actuator can go bad. Big job to replace it. Dash assembly must be removed to gain access to it.
Bad "blend door" actuator or stuck blend door on the driver's side.
Could be, low on coolant, bad thermostat, plugged heater core, faulty temp blend door actuator,
You can try replacing the batteries to see if that helps. If not you may need to get a replacement or see if the power it working properly.
Cannot speak specifically to a Oldsmobile but, on a Dodge product of same vintage it would be low freon. Either that, or it could be a bad control head, or a bad blend door actuator.
Generally the problem is with a broken blend door, not a bad actuator motor. A solution is available at www.heatertreater.net and additional information can be found by checking my other posts on this forum. cgallen
rear a/c blend door actuator bad [broken plastic gear]
Start with removing the actuator motor. (See "Related Questions" below)With the actuator out, operate the temperature adjusting control and watch the motor to see if it is moving.NOTE: Movement alone does not guarantee that the gear teeth inside are not broken.Next, using a small screw-driver, or similar, try and operate the blend door itself. It should move freely and easily. Any binding is a bad bad problem.Hopefully your problem will be the actuator and not the door!See "Related Questions" below for more
You could possibly have a bad heater core. I would bring it in a shop and have it checked out or your actuator for your blend door has gone bad.
Assuming the blower motor is working, it could be a bad thermostat, plugged heater core or a bad temp blend door actuator.
No. That sounds like the temp blend door actuator is on its way out.
