AD is after Christ was born

BC- 'before Christ' is not quite true. Firstly there was no 'year 0'. 1 BC is followed by 1AD. Also, Christ was not born on 1AD, 1BC or the non-existent year 0 for that matter. When the dating system BC/AD was adopted, there was an error in the calculation of years, and so it is far more likely that jesus was born in the early tyears BC. Thankfully, Luke, the author of the third gospel, pinpoint's Christ's birth using dates of emperors, governors and Jewish Kings, and so it is very likely that, using this evicence, jesus was born around 4 BC and the crucifixion and resurrection being around 30AD.

A.D. does not as many people belive stand for After Death. A.D. stands for Anno Domini which is latin for "in the year of Our Lord." Therefore for most of Jesus's life it was A.D. However it was not until much later that the B.C./A.D. calendar was invented. Prior to that, the Roman A.U.C. (ab urbe condita; year "from the founding of the city", i.e., Rome) dating system was in use.

To add to the above...

As the area where Jesus lived was part of the Roman Emperor, dates were usually taken from the reigns of the emperor e.g. ..."in the third year of the Emperor Tiberius....". When Israel/Judah were independent countries dates were taken from the reigns of their kings (... "in the second year of the reign of Solomon..."). As stated above the terms AD and BC were only in general usage a long time after Jesus, and even then the mistake was made that put Jesus's birth in the wrong year. rather than AD1 it was actually around 4BC.

ANSWER:B.C. is the abbreviation for Before Christian era, or before common era.

A.D. is the abbreviation for anno domini and means "In the year of Our Lord" and

begins as soon as 'BC' ends, that is, as soon as Jesus was born. So 'AD' includes the

period of time when Jesus was alive, and every year since then.

Before the Birth of Christ and After the Birth of Christ. Usually the two abbreviations are BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini - In the Year of Our Lord) When the year of Christ's birth was recorded there was an error made in the dates, because, after some time, it was realised that Christ was actually born a few years earlier than they thought. So we now know that Christ was born around 3 or 4 BC. Another problem was that there was no year '0', so 1 BC was followed by 1 AD. Therefore, if the crucifixion and resurrection took place when Christ was 33 (as stated in The Bible) and he was born around 3 or 4 BC, then the crucifixion and resurrection took place around 30 AD, as the measurement of the date was taken from the time of Christ's birth and not his whole earthly life.

The traditional dividing line between BC & AD is the birth of Jesus Christ. Although "BC" means "before Christ", the "A" in "AD" does not mean after. AD is an abbreviation for the Latin phrase "anno domini" (in the year of our lord), so Jesus Christ lived, obviously, in the period following his own birth AD.
