you can makea plate to bolt to the head and in between the alternator mount bolt. make it out of 1/4" inch steel plate. make your template out of a piece of tracing paper and then lay it out on the steel plate the way you need it. Take off enough in between alternator ear for plate to fit against engine flush. you can move mount over to space beside the old boss where the pulley originally bolted on. it will work, but requires lots of exactness to make correctly. i did it. have pics of everything. you need to have a good welder to weld a nut on the back side of plate. you must allow for the distance of pulley sticking out by drilling a hole in plate that is same size as pulley shoulder so it will drop down even like old setup. weld a plated nut on back side so the pulley will tighten down exactly and it will be same distance as old pulley was. take your time. my Cadillac went to the dealership where some idiot drilled the side of the broken stud with a angle drill and drilled the side of he bolt off where the stud originally broke and then broke off an easy out in the block. their fix was a new block or shorter belt which squeeled like a hurt pig everytime the car was started. this was cadillacs final fix which costed me 500.00 . unless i wanted the block replaced. don't ask the price. all in all you are better off to do it your self unless you can't , but then find a good mechanic, as cadillacs mechanics were not impressive to me...
Take the belt off, take the bolt off of the idler pulley, take the pulley off, put a new one on replace the bolt, and put the belt back on
Take the belt off, un-bolt the idler pulley, bolt the new pulley on, and finally put the belt back on and Viola!!
Take the belt off, take the bolt off of the idler pulley, take the pulley off, put a new one on replace the bolt, and put the belt back on
Are you talking about the "idler pulley"? They are quite simple to change. Loosen the serpentine belt by using a socket on the center of the tensioner pulley, slide the belt off the idler pulley, use a socket to pull the center bolt of the idler pulley and replace the pulley with a new one.
Lots of noise or the belt jumping off.
First you would need to take the serpentine belt off of the engine, and then remove the bolt in the center of the idler pulley. I have included an instructional vieo of how this is done.
The idler pulley or tensioner pulley?
That is the idler pulley. The other pully to the bottom left of that one is the tensioner pulley.
The idler pulley is located just under the A/C compressor. There is a bolts in the middle of the pulley that needs to be removed and the idler pulley can be removed. Sometimes these bolts stick and my need to be pryed off. You may also want to removed the radiator fans cow to give you some extra room.
Remove belt. Remove the bolt and then pull the pulley off. Put new pulley in position. Put the belt back on.
you should be able to put a socket wrench in the front of the idler pulley. Push away from the tension of the belt, then remove the belt. MAKE SURE you remember how the belt came off. Loosen the bolts on the pulley, then remove. Install new pulley, then put the belt back on.
Requires two person team. Step One: Look at serpentine belt diagram on front of engine. Arrow points to idler tension pulley. (Front Left side of engine) Loosen this 15mm bolt. Step Two: Loosen Idler pulley bolt - 15mm. Step Three: One person push down on idler tension pulley with tire removal tool or cheater bar on front left of engine while second person lifts belt off alternator. Step Four: Remove Idler pulley and replace with new one. Tighten bolt to idler pulley Step Five: One person push down on idler tension pulley with while the other fits belt on alternator and around idler pulley. Step Six: Make sure belt fits as noted on belt diagram and Tighten bolt on idler tension pulley (front left side of engine). Approximate time: 10 minutes
