This depends on how much detail you need to go into in your question. I hope this will help:

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" Church) was officially organized in 1830 in Palmyra, New York by Joseph Smith, Jr. The Church came about because of a vision he had at age 14 in which God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and told him that true Christianity was not to be found on the earth. He was later shown by and angel to a place where an ancient record was buried. This record was translated by the power of God into The Book of Mormon.

Shortly after this, most Church members moved to Kirtland, Ohio. About a decade later, mob violence forced them to move. They moved to Missouri, where an 'extermination order' was placed on them, and they were forced to move to Nauvoo, Illinois. Here Joseph Smith was murdered, and the saints kicked out due to mob violence again. Brigham Young lead the majority of the saints to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1847, where Church headquarters is today.

The accomplishments of the Church in the west are first, actually making it to the west! Tens of thousands of members from the U.S. and Europe crossed the plains, and a few thousand died en route. They set up thriving communities in a place thought to be 'wild and uninhabitable' by developing irrigation systems and using leather and adobe rather than wood and nails to build their buildings. These cities and communities are still thriving today in Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Nevada, California, Canada, and Mexico. They made the first American department store, organized their own government, made their own money, and - for a time- their own language!

How should a supervisor in the Army resond to a question regarding politics or religion?

Questions should be answered honestly, briefly, and non judgmentally. If you are asked a direct question, such as, "Are you a Christian, or are you a jew?" You should answer, a simple yes or no. Give an honest answer. Then say, "We will not discuss religion." If they ask, "What do you think of the President? You answer, "We are prohibited from discussing individual politicians." You have given an honest answer. Other questions, you answer and then cut off discussion of that area. I am a democrat. We will not discuss politics. You have shown them respect by answering their question. You have cut off additional discussion.
