I guess it depends where the wound is and how severe. If the wound is not severe, you need to clean it out. Some soap and water and a wet flannel can be used to remove any foreign objects like gravel, or dirt. Rinse and pat dry. Apply some iodine based ointment like Betadine and allow to dry. You may need some antibiotics from your doctor.
