What are you trying to do ? You could run a process through command line or create executable Batch file (.bat) to run it.

Also there is task scheduler to schedule a program to run without user intervention if you are using windows OS.

Processes are always running in the background. A good way to see which are running is to open up task manager and go to "Processes".
