How old you must be to work in Pennsylvania depends on what kid of job you would like.

For instance, you only have to be 11 to distribute, sell, expose, or offer for sale any newspaper, magazine, periodical, or other publication, or any article of merchandise of any sort, in any street or public place. But, you must be 14 or older to suffered, employed, or permitted to work at any time as a scavenger, bootblack, or in any other trade or occupation performed in any street or public place. You must be 16 in order to be employed or permitted to work in, about, or in connection with, any manufacturing or mechanical occupation or process; on scaffolding; in heavy work in the building trades; in stripping or assorting tobacco; in any tunnel; upon any railroad, steam, electric or otherwise; upon any boat engaged in the transportation of passengers or merchandise; in operating motor-vehicles of any description; in any anthracite or bituminous coal-mine, or in any other mine.

According to Pennsylvania's Child Labor Law the minimum age for employment is 14 years old unless you are employed on a farm or domestic service, then there are no restrictions. If you would like to be a caddy on a Golf course then you can be 12 years old, if you decide you would like to deliver newspapers then you need to be 11 years old and if you want to be famous such as modeling, theater or television then you need to be 7 years old. There are no restrictions on the motion pictures. You need to have a permit (employment certificate) for all jobs except for farm work as it is a requirement. There are three types of employment certificates; (1) General employment certificate - for any minor no longer enrolled in school, (2) Vacation employment certificate - any minor still enrolled ins school, and (3) Transferable employment certificate - 16 or 17 years old minors. Can be transferred between employers (optional).

Unless you are a golf caddy, you cannot work more than 8 hours a day. You must be sixteen to legally start working in Pennsylvania.
