It depends on the tribe. From what I gather (I'm Indian-and know people from various tribes) we use (and used) the Earth respectfully, because we believe (believed-as not all Indians today follow their tribe's spiritualities. I'm atheist, for one...) that our Spirit People have gone into the Earth herself including all plants and animals and even rocks (my tribe-not sure about others) and so every single animal, plant, or rock has a specific way to respectfully be harvested for use. Does that answer the question? Without more details I'm not exactly sure what the question is asking... The earth is important because it's directly tied to our spirituality, which is less of a religion and more of a part of us.
