Unless the coin is in proof or uncirculated condition it's only worth face value, so selling it at a yard sale wouldn't be very profitable. Older-date nickels still turn up in change every so often so your coin isn't unusual.

In any case except for the famous "war nickels" of 1942-45, all US nickels are made of the same cupronickel alloy as their modern counterparts - there's no silver in them at all.
