It appears a rough value (depending upon breed, activity, environment, age etc) using the formula:

(desired weight in lbs)/2.2 +70.

A Google search will also yield more intricate formulas taking into account resting and active burn rates, nursing, etc.

It depends on what kind of dog it is, how big it is, etc....

Labs are prone to getting obese because they never feel "full." Calorie level depends on activity level; a health female Lab will weigh 55-65 lbs and a male 60-75 lbs. Adjust diet so that they maintain a healthy weight (you should be able to see a clear waist below the rib cage, and feel ribs, but not see ribs). Labs need a good, high quality, balanced dog diet. They often benefit as well from flax seed oil or salmon oil for their naturally oily coats to look their best.

The amount of calories that a dog needs daily per pound of weight vary widely. There is no average. A Chihuahua puppy needs fewer calories per pound than a mastiff puppy; a Great Dane dog needs more calories than a Maltese. To determine how many calories a specific dog needs, it's best to consult a veterinarian.

There is no single answer, as a Chihuahua should eat far less calories than an English Mastiff, and a working collie should have more calories than a couch-potato Labrador Retriever.

The general answer is to start with the feeding recommendation on the bag of dog food (or the cans) that you buy - if the dog maintains a healthy weight, that is the correct number of calories for that dog at that time.
