The US Dept of the interior and the US Geological Survey both report that Illinois has an average yearly rainfall of 38.82 inches. Although, for the past 2 years we have been experiencing higher amounts of rainfall in the spring, and cooler temperatures during the summer. This April we are expected to reach 12 inches of rain in some parts of the state. The average for April is 3.4 inches.

The southern portion of Illinois receives about 48 inches of rain annually. The northern part of Illinois receives about 30 inches of rain per year.
