to ways to overdose on potassium - too much or too little - my grandmother was placed in an old folks home and within 48 hours they misread her potassium level as too high and it was too low and the idiot gave her idk which ended her life - my grandmother knew it would happen, she told me 4 days prior - in another hospital, but without auxiliary insurance she was transported to a long-term UNSKILLED facility and within 48 hours - she was gone - the question for me was the idk and the nurse who did it - one should never be answered - i loved my grandmother.

Usually having "too much potassium" in your bloodstream (hyperkalemia) will give you no symptoms, however some people may experience nausea, irregular heartbeat, or feeling tired/weak. However many other conditions could easily cause those symptoms. Severe hyperkalemia can lead to cardiac arrest. However from a dietary perspective, it is actually fairly difficult to (regularly) ingest too much potassium via what you eat, and if you do ingest too much every-so-often, your kidneys are fairly efficient at getting rid of it. It is primarily if you kidneys do not work efficiently that hyperkalemia becomes a problem. Some prescribed drugs may also raise blood potassium levels.

The normal need is about 2-4 mEq / kg/ day. This can be higher if you are taking diuretics and in some medical conditions.
