A standard NHL ice rink is 85 feet by 200 feet...I doubt you have that much space in your basement. That's the spirit. I doubt you could build a standard size ice rink in your basement, but I think you could build a heck of a smaller one! Go for it!

No, they are not the same thing, although both rinks were built with funds donated from Kate Wollman's estate. Kate Wollman Rink (which closed in 2010) was in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Wollman Rink (which is now run by the Trump organization and called the Trump Wollman Skating Rink) is in the southeast quadrant of Central Park. Kate Wollman herself donated the funds to build Wollman Rink (now Trump-Wollman Rink), in 1949. In 1961 (after her death), those in charge of her estate donated the money to build Kate Wollman Rink in Prospect Park.
There are a number of sources of information about how to make a backyard ice rink. For instance one can read instructions at Instructables and Popular Mechanics. One can also view a 'How to Build a Backyard Rink' on YouTube.
It depends entirely on the size of the rink !
It should cost you like 10,000
A permit for a ice rink would vary between the different owners.

Why do you need to know? I doubt you have the money for it. It costs alot of money, and you need to build the building, hire staff, get a concession stand, a zamboni, a pro-shop. Let's face it, you're not going to be buying any of that soon. Don't ask this question again, it was alot to type. I'm just trying to help you out here buddy. Don't buy an ice rink. It's a waste of your time and money. You will go bankrupt. Don't even think about doing it. It's a stupid question. ;)
