It is relevant to your state insurance and other conditions. Contact your agent! Most states do not allow minors to enter into contractural agreements - including insurance policies. Therefore, most insurance companies require a parent or legal guardian to obatin the insurance on behalf of the minor and sign all corresponding paperwork.

If your adding a 16 year to your current policy it varies by insurance company and type of car they will be driving. If they will be driving a basic car it will run $70 to $90 a month. Make sure they drive their own car if possible otherwise the insurance company will put them on the highest value car you have.

1. The make and model of the car;

2. The identity of the insurer;

3. The amount of insurance sought ("policy limits"), and as to physical damage coverage, the amount of the deductible;

4. The type of insurance sought (liability, physical damage);

5. The location of the vehicle'

6. Whether the 16 year old will be the primary driver;

7. Whether he/she has taken a driver education course;

8. Whether the driver has gotten any tickets for moving violations, and the outcome of the tickets;

9. Anticipated annual miles that the vehicle will be driven;

10. Whether the car will be used for mainly personal or business use.

If you are talking about car insurance, you will have to shop around or contact an insurance agent. It literally depends on the teenager, driving record, male or female, sometimes grades, what type of car, do you live in an urban or rural area, etc. Call an insurance agent in your area and ask them for a comparison quote to compare several different policies.

What kind of insurance did you have in mind? Do you want to insure him as a driver? Do you want life insurance to cover possible funeral expenses? Do you want medical insurance? All of the above? Every type of insurance comes in a range of prices, depending upon how much coverage you want, and upon the kind of risk that the individual may be judged to be (for example, if the 16 year old boy has already had a traffic accident, his driver's insurance will be more expensive).

Insurance is based on many things, not just age and car.

Your driving history, experience, exact type of car, where the car is garaged, and even credit rating.

Call multiple agents in your area and they can give you exact quotes.
