There are many things a parent can do to reduce the instances of eating disorders like anorexia in a teen concerned about body image. Most importantly is for the parent to encourage their teen to live a healthy lifestyle. This includes a varried, full diet, and lots of exercise and healthy choices.

A parent should also have positive self-esteem and positive self-image, and try to promote this towards their teen, too. As a whole, a parent can help their teen by complimenting or offering encouragement, and refraining from making mean comments based on physical features, appearances, or weight.

It is also important to know the warning signs, and to get help for the teen if they think that there is a more serious problem.

He might. What you mainly need to do is be concerned that you actually had to slap him to get him to stop. Please consult with a parent, teacher, guidance counselor, or such, especially if it does happen again.
