Normally seven years combined college and law school.

You will need a 4-year bachelors degree in almost any subject, and an adequate LSAT score for admission to law school, which is generally 3 years to earn a Juris Doctor (JD). You also must pass the Bar exam in the state in which you want to practice, in order to actually work as a lawyer.

You need a 4 year undergraduate degree, a 3 year law degree and then you have to pass the bar exam. You'll also need to take the LSAT test in order to gain admission to law school.

Your undergraduate degree need not cost a lot (you could go to a state school for less than $5k a year), but your graduate law program will very likely be expensive. It's not uncommon to pay $25,000+ a year in tuition. On top of that, in my state (NY), first year law students aren't allowed to work.

Some states will allow you to take the bar exam without actually going to law school, but this is very rare and you're often still required to have a certain amount of legal work experience.

It takes around seven years to become a lawyer. After this, they earn a J.D. degree. They can continue to go to school in order to specialize, much like a doctor would.
