There are 263 known solar systems (stars with planets) to date (December 2008), though more are found each month.

It is likely that a substantial fraction of the 200 billion stars in our galaxy are orbited by planets. That's just our galaxy--there are about 100 billion galaxies in the universe. You do the math.

A galaxy is millions and millions of stars; our Milky Way galaxy is perhaps as many as 400 BILLION stars. Some of them are double or triple star systems, and we don't know if every star has planets (although it is beginning to seem that they will!).

So the number of solar systems will vary from galaxy to galaxy, but I would guess that 100 billion solar systems in the Milky Way galaxy may not be too far off.

There are an estimated 1022 - that's a 1, followed by 22 zeroes - stars in the observable Universe. It is not known how much larger the entire Universe is, compared to the observable Universe. Nor is it known what percentage of the stars have planets (to qualify as "solar systems"), but based on recent discoveries of planets, this percentage seems to be rather large.

None. A galaxy is orders of magnitude larger than a solar system. Out solar system is just one small part of one galaxy which contains billions of solar systems.

How are the earth universe solar system galaxy related?

There are eight planets, including Earth, in our solar system, there are many solar systems in our galaxy, and there are countless galaxies in the universe.

What is bigger a Nebula or the solar system?

the universe is bigger than a solar system. Obviouisly, because there are many solar systems in our galexy, and many galexies in our universe, there may be more that one universe contained in what I choose to call 'Infinity'.

How many solar sistems are there?

In the observable UNiverse there are somewhere in the order of 1011 galaxies, a typical galaxy might have 1011 stars, and it seems likely that most stars have planets and would therefore qualify as "solar systems". That makes for a total of roughly 1022 stars or solar systems (that is a one, followed by 22 zeroes), just in the observable Universe. Note that the total Universe is probably much larger, but it isn't currently know how much larger. All of the above are rough estimates, of course.

What is the difference between a universe and a galaxy?

The Universe is the whole thing, while a galaxy is only a part and there are billions of galaxies in the Universe.universe consists of many galaxies(astronomy) a collection of star systems; any of the billions of systems each having many stars and nebulae and dust is known as galaxyEverything that exists anywhere is known as universeex:"they study the evolution of the universe"A 'galaxy' is a collection of stars and planets in one space orbiting a core or a very large star. The 'universe' holds all these Galaxy's and could be infinite.E.g. We live in one of millions of Galaxy's but all the Galaxy's live in one universe.(the best way I can explain it in typing.)

What are groups of solar systems called?

The Solar System is the name of our particular planetary system around our star; Sol. Many stars have been observed to have similar planetary systems and it can be assumed this is a common event in the Universe. Often neighbouring stars will form small groups called clusters, but the Universe is populated by huge groups of stars called galaxies which contain anything from a few million to trillions of stars.

Earth is the what planet in the universe?

Earth is the third planet from out sun, but there is no way of ordering Earth with planets in the entire universe as there are other solar systems. Scientists can only make an educated guess as to how many.

How many solar system are there in space?

Our own galaxy has between 100 and 400 billion stars; there are hundreds of billions of similar galaxies in the OBSERVABLE Universe, and it is believed that the entire Universe is much, much bigger than the observable Universe (how much bigger, is not known). It seems that at least a large percentage of those stars have planets, which means they can be called "solar systems".

Is there another solar systems in the universe?

Yes. There are many other solar systems in the universe. In fact thereis the probability for some 200 billion solar systems inour ownMilky Way galaxy alone, because our sun is one of 200 billion stars in the Milky Way.

What are there anythings outside the solar system?

Yes, for our solar system is just one of the many solar systems of the universe. In the universe, there are countless galaxies such as our Milky Way, which contain countless solar systems such as ours, that is located on an arm of the Milky Way. Solar systems are just systems of planets, asteroids, comets, etc kept in revolutions around a star from the force of gravity. There are many more stars out there besides just our star, which could just be random stars or could be big enough to create a solar system. Thus, there are many objects out there besides our own solar system. Hope this helps!

Is a solar system smaller than a galaxy?

Galaxy. Solar system contain planets and stars. While thousands of stars makes up a GalaxyA Galaxy. Our Milky Way Galaxy is ~100,000 light years across. Our Solar system is a mere ~0.005 light years across.
