According to Mark's Gospel, Jesus said that, first, the Temple in Jerusalem will be destroyed, brother will fight brother and there will be desolation, and finally the sun and moon will cease to shine. Then his apostles will see Jesus return in the clouds, with great glory.

Certainly, events occurred during the Jewish War of 66-70 that could be said to be part of that prophecy - the Temple was destroyed, brother fought brother (the civil war in Jerusalem) and there was desolation, but the sun and moon continue to shine. Perhaps some scholars are too sceptical, in saying that Mark got part of the prophecy right because those events were already taking place when he wrote the gospel. The most important part of this prophecy was that the second coming would take place in the life of the apostles. Since they all died many centuries ago, perhaps there will never be a second coming of Jesus.

The number of prophecies of the second coming of Jesus in The Bible can be many or few, depending on how liberal one wishes to be in interpreting the Bible. Burton L. Mack says that you can always get the Answer you want from the Bible by making a few assumptions and looking for just what you want the biblical text to mean. Passages in the Book of Isaiah have even been interpreted as prophesying the second coming of Jesus.

One of the most unambiguous prophecies of the second coming is in Mark chapter 13, where Jesus said that the disciples, within their own lifetime, would see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. This prophecy did not come to pass, and later New Testament gospels became more ambiguous in describing just when the second coming would be.

Another Answer

There are over forty prophecies in the NewTestament which pertain to Jesus' second coming. They include prophecies regarding the certainty of his coming ( Hebrews 9:28, Matthew 16:27, John 14:3, 1 Thessalonians 4;16, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8, Acts 1:11, Rev.3:11, Rev. 22:12 ), that we will not know the time ( Matthew 24;44, Matthew 25;13, Mark 13:32), the resurrection of the dead ( Matthew 25:32, John 5:28-29 ), judgment ( Matthew 25:31-33, Revelation 14:14, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, 1 Corinthians 4:5, Jude 14-15, Revelation 22:12 ), comes in glorification ( Mark 13:26-27, Philippians 3;20-21 Colossians 3;4, 2 Thessalonians 1:10 1 John 3:2, 1 Peter 5:2, 2 Timothy 4:7, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 ) , destruction of the world ( 2 Peter 3:10-13 ), delivers Kingdom to the father ( 1 Corinthians 15:23-28 ), work of salvation finished ( 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 ), hope of second coming ( 2 Peter 3:14,17-18, Rev. 3:3,11,1 Thessalonians 3:12 ), signs of coming ( Luke 21:29-36 ), assurance of second coming ( John 14:27, Philippians 1:6, James 5:7, Hebrews 10:36, Acts 1:10-11, Rev. 22:20 ), and second coming revealed in the Lord's supper ( 1 Corinthians 11:26.

Eschatology is teachings concerning the last things in world history. Chief future events include Jesus' return, the millennium, the last judgment, the final resurrection, and heaven and hell. Early Christianity was rooted in the paradoxical conviction that the last things has " already " occurred, even though they were : not yet " fully completed ( 1 Corinthians 15:20 ).

Jesus' second coming, in prophecy, is called the "Day of the Lord." It's the time when God's wrath will be "poured out" on the earth through the last seven "vial plagues" found in Revelation 16. The world will know it by the "heavenly signs" that preceed it, when the sun and the moon will cease giving their light.

"...The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, BEFORE the great and the terrible Day of the Lord come." (Joel 2:31)

"...Woe unto you that desire the Day of the Lord! To what end is it for you? The Day of the Lord is darkness, and not light... Shall not the Day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it?" (Amos 5:18-20)

Jesus prophesys of these heavenly signs that follow the Great Tribulation in Matthew 24:29, which is followed by His return to the earth beginning in verse 30. This corresponds to the 6th seal of Revelation, chapter 6, which preceeds "seal 7" - the DAY OF THE LORD - the subject of the book of Revelation. Jesus returns in (Rev.19).

"I was in the Spirit on THE LORD'S DAY..." (Rev.1:10).

Prophecies of the "Day of the Lord's wrath" are repeated throughout the Bible more than 30 times... not counting the ones that only refer to it as: "THAT DAY."

They are:

Isaiah: 2:12; 13:9; 13:13; 34:8; 61:2

Ezekiel: 7:19; 13:15; 30:3

Joel: 1:15; 2:1; 2:11; 2:31; 3:14

Amos: 2:16; 5:17; 5:20

Obadiah: 15

Zephaniah: 1:7; 1:8; 1:14; 1:18; 2:2; 2:3

Zechariah: 14:1

Malachi: 3:2; 4:5

Acts: 2:20

I Cor. 1:8; 5:5

II Cor. 1:14

I Thess. 5:2

II Peter 3:10

Rev. 1:10

You ask how many prophecies, concerning what?

There were generally considered about 333 prophecies about Jesus first coming. Jesus fulfilled all 333 prophecies. There are many prophecies about Jesus second coming.

There were prophecies in Daniel about the Persians then the Greeks, then the Romans overtaking the kingdom of Babylon, which came true.

There was a prophecy in Isaiah about a king coming that would be named Cyrus, which was fulfilled in Daniel.

There were prophecies concerning Jericho and Edom and Tyre.

There are probably over 1000 prophecies in the Bible.

What is the celebration of Christs coming?

The Bible does not say exactly when Jesus was born, though there are some good clues. It would seem many point to mid-late September to early-mid October, around the Feast of Trumpets as the most likely time period - circa 5/4 BC. Many, however, in Christianity celebrate His birth on 25 December - in the winter season.
