Thousands have tried and failed to climb Mount Everest over the years. Around 200 have died on the mountain.
Around 5,000 people from all over the world have reached the summit of Mount Everest to date. Many more have tried but failed.
In any records, no children have tried to climb Mt. Everest.
Reinhold Messner was the first person to climb Mount Everest alone (solo). He reached the summit on the 20th August 1980.The only other person to climb solo is Tashi Changba Sherpa from Nepal who did so on the 20th May 2016.

The main reason people want to climb Mount Everest is to live out their dream. Some do it for the adventure and thrill, others do it because they are paid as a guide and some see how far they can push their body to the limits.
