answer 2 On my card there are the usual 16 on the front face, and the retailers/system pays attention to exp date and spelling of username as well.

On the reverse, in the signature panel, are another 7 numbers, of which the first four are the same as the last four on the face. I can only speak of the old-style cards - who knows what is on the new chip style cards.
