Close but a little off. You can round it to 17 shots in a fifth. A standard shot is indeed 1.5 ounces, and a fifth is 750 millileters. There are 44.36 mL in each 1.5 oz shot. doing the math, there are 16.907 1.5oz shots in a fifth. Not off by much really, but the extra mil and a half would be nice :)

"a fifth holds 17.066667 shots

1 shot = 1.5 ounces

It depends on the definitions. A fifth of a gallon is 25.6 oz, 725.76 mL. A shot is technically an ounce, but shot glasses are generally an ounce and a half, technically a jigger.

Sometime around 1980, liquor switched to 750 ml bottles which would be 17.6 jiggers. The glasses aren't filled to the brim, and there is some spillage. Most bars figure 18 shots to the bottle."

A fifth of liquor is 750 ml of liquor. The name represents the fact that it is almost 1/5 of a gallon but is actually short by about 8 ml.

NO. -The US term "fifth" refers to 1/5 US gallon of liquor. This is 757 ml or 25 fl oz. This is now the common size of a liquor or wine bottle in North America.
