The basic formula to figure water volume or gallons of water for a specific size say 20 x 40 are as follows 20 x 40 = 800 x average depth(say 5') = 4000 x 7.5(gallons per cubic foot) = 30,000

In answer to your question you did not give enough information. Is it 24ft diameter? If so the formula is radius squared x 3.14 x 4(average depth) x 7.5 Or 12 squared(144) x 3.14(452.16) x 4(a.d.)1808.64 x 7.5 = 13,564.8 gallons

The area equation for a circle is pi times the radius squared. And then multiply that result by the depth to get cubic feet. Let's say you are talking about a pool 24' in diameter and 3' deep. So, half of 24 is 12, which is the radius length. And 12 squared (12 X 12) is 144. That result times 3.14, which is pi, equals 452 square feet of surface area. That 452 square feet area times the three feet of depth results in about 1,356 cubic feet of water. Since one cubic foot of water is about 7.48 gallons, then the 1,356 cf of pool space times 7.48 gallons equals 10,143 gallons of water to fill it. Wow! WELCOME TO OUR _OOL! You have to take the length of the pool in feet multiplied by the width of the pool in feet multiplied by the depth of the pool in feet and multiply by 7.5 to find the approx gallon capacity

Depending on how deep you fill it your pool is in the 10,000 to 12,000 gallon area... You need to shoot for the mid range and do not have to be totally accurate when deciding on chemical amounts. Enjoy your summer!

You appear to be missing a piece of information. How deep is the pool?

If we assume (for the sake of discussion) that the pool is only 1 ft deep, then the total volume of the pool (Length x Width x Depth) would be 24x4x1 = 96 cubic feet.

One cubic foot is equivalent to 7.48051948 US Gallons (according to Google).

That's a bit more precision than we really need, so I'm going to round that to 7.5.

96 cubic feet x 7.5 gallons per cubic foot = 720 gallons.

That depends on how DEEP the pool is. The information provided only permits calculation of the AREA of the pool, not the volume and gallons are units of volume not area. To give you some idea though - here are the gallons for different depths:

To fill the pool to a depth of 2 ft would require 1436 gallons

To fill the pool to a depth of 3 ft would require 2154 gallons

To fill the pool to a depth of 4 ft would require 2873 gallons

To fill the pool to a depth of 5 ft would require 3591 gallons

To fill the pool to a depth of 6 ft would require 4309 gallons
