1 cubic foot = (12 x 12 x 12) = 1,728 cubic inches

1 gallon = 231 cubic inches

3 gallons = (3 x 231 / 1,728) = 0.40104 cubic foot (rounded)

Handy thing to remember: 1 cubic foot = roughly 7.5 gallons Using this handy approximation, 3 gallons = (3 / 7.5) = 0.4 cubic foot, which is pretty close.

You haven't told us how big the bucket is. But even if we knew that,

we would have no way of knowing how much water is in it. Maybe

it's empty and you're just pulling our chain.
