While there can be wide variation among individuals, sleep research suggests that we pass through a full sleep cycle in about 90 minutes. Most dreams are thought to take place during the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase of the cycles, but more recently it has been confirmed that a different sort of dreaming occurs in NREM (non REM) sleep. A rough estimate might be point toward something like 7 dreams per night, however, most subtle and fleeting dreams that are not remembered probably are not included in that estimate. When you go to sleep, your body goes through 3 stages. 1. Light sleep, 2. Deep sleep. and 3. Dream sleep. Number 3 is where you have all your dreams. It only takes around 30 minutes to go through the system, that's why people usually have a few dreams each night. If you wake up in the middle of your dream, you remember it If you wake up after your dream finished, you forget it.

What do you dream at night?

You have so many dreams at night because your mind is still "running" at night. During the day most people have stress or other things to do which can prevent from relaxation. During the night when you are sleeping you are relaxed and in your 'fantasy world.'More information:Dreams are produced by the subconscious mind while the conscious mind is inactive, resting. Everyone has multiple dreams during the night, most of which are not remembered. If you are waking up frequently during the night, you become more aware of more dreams, and it will seem as if you are having more dreams than usual.
