Without drugs, HIV converts to AIDS in about 10 to 15 years. Nowadays there are much better and more effective drugs, so people with access to these drugs are living a lot longer.

Of course, millions of people in poorer countries cannot afford these drugs and so continue to die from AIDS.

Its an individual process. It really depends on healthy you werer when you were first diagnosed with HIV. The only way to know for sure for YOU is to see a dr. This is a TREATABLE (note: treatable refers to delaying the inevitable. treatment for AIDS will NOT, repeat NOT CURE IT) terminal illness. UNLIKE in the '80s, HIV is not an IMMEDIATE death sentence anymore. You have choices and options and there are alot of medications out there that can prolong the developement of AIDS for years, if not decades or longer. Dont be a fool, call a doctor, use a condom, abstain from sex.

Note: AIDS is not curable, but its development can be delayed

Also: a lot of the drugs used to prevent AIDS can have adverse affects on other organs.

HIV/AIDS will still wind up with you dying, it is incurable. The only way not to die from it is if you were dying from something else before, or you die from physical injury or something.
