1) the terms and condition on the contract list out that the self storage owner is not the owner of stuff that are stored in the storage unit 2) some country actually have law that prohibit self storage owner from processing customer's item, even when they fail to pay the rent. Like HongKong Storage, if customer fail to pay rent, they have to discard storage item instead of keeping them
