There's a train which travels from Cuzco to a town near the base of the mountains by Machu Picchu, and from there you can take a bus. I visited Machu Picchu (after Cuzco) recently and it is beautiful! Anyhow, just ask any police officer or store owner and they can help tell you where to go - they're very friendly!

Machu Picchu offers a variety of trails and tours that vary in difficulty. The Intipuncu trail is not considered difficult and has only a slight incline. The Puente Inca trail is a path is slightly more difficult and is a 35 minutes long hike.
