no one really knows how many wise men there were, most people think there were 3, but The Bible says that "the wise men then brought 3 gifts of frankinsence, gold, and myrr." the Bible says that they brought 3 gifts, so in theory, it makes it sound like there were 3 wise men, but there could have been just 1, mabe 2, mabe 100, no one knows. people also think that the wise men came to visit Jesus on the night that he was born, but this is not true, the Bible says that the wise men came to visit him when he was at least a month old or a year old. and if you dont believe what im saying now, you can just go and read your Bible, cause EVERYBODY knows that the Bible is pure truth. ;)

∙ 7y agoSince Matthew says they presented three types of gifts to Jesus, the assumption that there were threemen became popular and widely accepted. However, the biblical account (Matthew 2:1-12) never actually specifies how many men there were.
The Bible does not specify a number beyond using the plural "men" and "we" rather than "man" and "I" - so there were at least 2 but there could have been 3, 5, 10, 20....
"Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him."

It is in Matthew's Gospel that the wise men, or magi, went to see Jesus. Matthew does not say how many wise men there were but mentions three gifts, leading to the later tradition that there were exactly three wise men. John Shelby Spong (Born of a Woman: A Bishop Rethinks the Birth of Jesus) calls Matthew's story of wise men 'Christian midrash' and says that among people he knows in New Testament circles, the universal assumption is that the wise men were not actual people.
