probably as much time as it takes for you to lay there staring at the clock before you get fed up and take at least another 5 mg.
usually only elderly people are prescribed 5mg.
and even 10mg is unlikely to induce sleep. if you have normal prescrption sleeping pills (benzos or stronger) that would be a better bet.
