it is diffent because about 1/3 of the population lives in goergetown. (the capital)

the population is diverse. half of the people are descended from people who migrated to Guyana fom India

The population of the guianas differs from other countries in Latin America because after the abolition of slavery thousands of East Indians, portuguese, Javanese and Chinese immigrants were brought to these countries to work in the sugar and coffee plantations, thus, the population is much more mixed than, say, Argentina or Peru.
