Swing and big band are related. Although there were some small groups that were definitely swing bands, they mirrored the style and most of the arrangements of the big bands. However big bands also played dance music and ballads that weren't really swing tunes even though they used the same instrumentation.

Swing is a style of music derived from "purer" jazz, emphasizing a danceable beat and solo performances withing a broader written orchestration.

A big band is a jazz orchestra composed of anywhere from 10 to 25 musicians, with 14-18 being the usual complement.

Big bands most frequently perform Swing Music because it's arranged for

an ensemble who perform the melody while individual musicians take ad-lib solos during the piece.

However swing can be performed by any group - a combo, even a vocal group such as Manhattan Transfer. Similarly big bands can perform many different styles of music ranging from slow-dance ballads to some classical pieces and modern jazz intended for listening rather than dancing.
